GRAIN’s 2024 Highlights shares the top stories of the year from our work with partners and allies around the world to advance food sovereignty. This past year, food systems turned into battlegrounds- from conflicts in countries like Palestine, Haiti, and Sudan, where food was weaponised, to corporate land grabs surging and industrial food production fueling climate chaos. Yet, farmers, pastoralists, fisherfolk and food workers mobilised globally organising events, actions, and strategies to resist and advocate for food sovereignty, demonstrating widespread resistance to the privatisation and corporate takeover of food systems. In 2024, as in the past three decades, GRAIN worked alongside groups to provide information and support for these struggles. Some examples that made the Highlights include co-hosting a public webinar on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, launching a major new dataset and report on land grabs stemming from carbon offsets projects; bolstering a global week of action to Stop UPOV and co-coordinating a meeting of a Latin American coalition of communities impacted by intensive animal farming.Find out more in GRAIN’s 2024 Highlights report here
