GRAIN's 2019 activity report

by GRAIN | 9 Apr 2020

Reflecting back on 2019, the contrast with our current reality is startling. Last year still resonates with the chants of indignation from people marching and demonstrating around the world. GRAIN staff were active in meetings, seminars, workshops and gatherings around the globe working closely with communities on the ground. Now, the streets around much of the world are empty and physical gatherings have become a deadly risk.

As we explore other ways of connecting and organising with partners in this climate of great uncertainty, we would like to share our 2019 activity report. Small dairy farmers pushing back trade deals, communities resisting land grabs by oil palm plantations and the fight to preserve peasants' seeds are just some of last year's highlights, ushering in another round of struggles in 2020 and for the years to come. How the current pandemic will affect the struggle for food sovereignty in the long run is yet to be seen.

However, if there was ever a time to construct networks of solidarity and resilience, this is it. GRAIN reaffirms its commitment calling out the unethical profit-making of the industrial food system in times of crisis and calling for practices and policies that contribute to a healthy, just food system.

Thank you for being connected to GRAIN and please, stay healthy and take care of yourself and your community.
